Just talk to me...

By Peter Kaye |

The Cornish Vicar's Daughter includes a number of prayers as well as advice on treating Jesus as a friend. Janet us these words to Charlene "No posh words, just tell God how it is."  A past warden at Lee Abbey puts it like this...

Don't be afraid if you don't understand
Don't fear you won't do it right
Don't worry about performing

Just talk to me

Abide with me

One of my top ten hymns, sung very movingly. I first heard this recording on Classic FM at the height of the COVID crisis.

This was the hymn that Peter liked which persuaded him to stay on for the funeral of someone he never knew. And which began to shape Janet's views on him as husband and father.

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Yes, I like the traditional rendering of this hymn - organ, church choir etc. But here is a performance that stirs my faith every time I hear it...

This the carol where Peter teased Janet over the words "second birth". And got more than he bargained for - a mini sermon on this important point of Christian faith.
